Real als Vorbild für die DFB-Elf? – 77,78 % der Fans stimmen Müller zu
From Eike Wölk
Following the mixed performances in the last two Nations League matches (0-1 defeat against Hungary, 3-3 draw in England), Bayern veteran Thomas Müller has identified a new role model for the German national team: Champions League winners Real Madrid. He himself could not achieve much in the draw against the English, Müller was only substituted on in the 79th minute and could only have little impact on the game. However, after the final whistle, he once again took on his role as spokesperson for the DFB team and suggested taking an example from Bayern's great European rivals. In this context, FanQ surveyed football fans in Germany as to whether they also consider ‚Los Blancos‘ to be a good role model.
Müller looks confidently to the future
The most recent results in the Nations League have not been met with much enthusiasm by the fans of the German national team. The Bayern squad of Leroy Sané, Jamal Musiala, Joshua Kimmich, Serge Gnabry and Thomas Müller in particular had probably hoped that the match against England would give them a boost for the upcoming games in the Bundesliga. Unfortunately, they were unable to record any success in the two international matches, even if it certainly wasn't all bad. „If you look at it from a psychological point of view: You lead 2-0, but give it away again. But then you still manage to draw 3-3 here at Wembley, which can give us a good feeling,“ Müller said after the game against the Three Lions. However, there is still a long way to go for national coach Hansi Flick's team. The attacking player believes that other teams should also be taken as an example: ‚I've already had the chance to work under Carlo Ancelotti. Real Madrid can perhaps be a role model. Things don't always go brilliantly there either, but they keep their heads up, they keep faith in themselves.‘

The DFB coach takes a similar view and dares to look to the future with optimism: „We've done a lot of things well. Not giving up is what we need.“ Of course, you can't simply ignore the things that aren't going well. This is also the view of Oliver Bierhoff, who would have liked to have seen a defiant reaction from the German team after the defeat against Hungary: „The anger prevails,“ he said in relation to the mood in the team. In general, most of the players are facing an exhausting time. Within the next six weeks, the professionals whose clubs are represented internationally have a total of 13 games to play. Of course, that's a lot of games and will take its toll. A strong Bayern squad would certainly also have a positive effect on the national team.
In light of Thomas Müller's statements after the England match, FanQ surveyed German football fans on whether they also consider Real Madrid a good role model. 77.78 % of survey participants agreed with the 33-year-old, finding that the German national team can certainly take an example from the Champions League winners. The Spaniards have demonstrated their comeback qualities on their way to the European crown several times last season. In contrast, only 15.15 % of respondents believe that the German team should go its own way.
