The league comparison from the fans' perspective
Cologne. The FanQ voting platform asked over 10,000 football fans in the Bundesliga, plus at least 200 per club, how they rate their favourite club in various categories. The third part of this large-scale project is about the favourite mascot of the clubs in the German top flight.
The league comparison by FanQ enables a comparison of the clubs in the Bundesliga from the fans' perspective. In the final phase of the season (April 2024), fans were asked about their view of their favourite club in 24 different categories. The respective ratings of the clubs were combined to create a league comparison. The representativeness of the results was established at the level of each individual club using weighting factors. The survey and study thus provides a unique view of the Bundesliga's football clubs.
The third part of the publication of the league comparison deals with the question of which first division club has the most popular mascot. A complete overview of all 18 Bundesliga teams and their performance is attached to this press release.
Among the 18 mascots of the Bundesliga clubs, "Atilla", the eagle of Eintracht Frankfurt, is in the top position in a league-wide comparison. Out of a possible five stars, the feathered mascot from the Main received a strong average of 4.96 stars. He is closely followed by another animal companion with an average of 4.95 stars. "Hennes, the IX" is the current billy goat at the side of 1. FC Köln, who unfortunately have to come to terms with relegation to the second division at the end of this season. The top trio is completed by crocodile "Fritzle". The mascot of VfB Stuttgart, who also impressed in sporting terms this season and even secured the runners-up spot on the final matchday, is in third place with an average of 4.83 stars.
The last three places are occupied by clubs that no longer have a permanent mascot. FC Augsburg (3.49 stars), Werder Bremen (2.89 stars) and 1. FSV Mainz 05 (2.86 stars) have all dropped their mascots in recent years, with the Fuggerstädter and the 05ers each having an unofficial mascot in the form of "Kalle Wirsch" and "Clown Johannes" respectively, although they only enjoy average popularity among supporters. Of the existing companions, "Bobbi Bolzer" from relegation winners VfL Bochum received the lowest average rating. With 4.10 out of a possible five stars, the VfL mascot came 14th.
