Diouf on Salah: „He would earn more as a European“ - fans disagree

 In Votings

Mohamed Salah and Liverpool FC have been in contract negotiations for months, but the player and club have yet to agree on the financial terms. In the midst of the contract poker, 41-year-old ex-Liverpool player El-Hadji Diouf now claims: „Salah must understand that he is African. He will never get paid what he would get if he was European.“ FanQ then asked football fans in Germany whether they believed the same.

Diouf makes serious accusations about the treatment of Salah

Mohamed Salah's career really took off at Liverpool FC, despite his spells at Chelsea FC and AS Roma. The Egyptian joined the Reds for €42 million in 2017 and has developed into one of the top performers in Jürgen Klopp's team with an incredible first season. The 29-year-old is now clearly one of the world's best footballers and has won just about everything there is to win with LFC over the past four and a half years. That is why the 2019 Champions League winners are also very interested in extending Mohamed Salah's contract, which expires in 2023. The club and player have been negotiating new terms for months. “Extending a contract with a player like Mo is not something you meet for a cup of tea in the afternoon and reach an agreement on,“ said Klopp some time ago. Now the talks about a new contract have stalled because the right winger is said to be demanding too much money. Ex-Liverpool player El-Hadji Diouf is now interfering in this contract poker with serious accusations about the handling of Salah.

„Salah has to understand that he is African. He will never get paid what he would get if he were European.“ The 41-year-old played in England for a long time and was under contract with the Reds between 2002 and 2005. The Senegalese justified his accusations by saying that he was treated badly and unequally during his time. “I was told not to travel to my home country to play for my national team.“ FanQ then asked football fans in Germany whether they agreed with Diouf's thesis. The majority of 55.1% of fans disagree with the Senegalese and do not believe that Salah would get a higher salary if he were European. However, 35.9% of respondents disagree and think that nationality has an impact on the financial and behavioural aspects of a player. Nevertheless, Diouf would advise the Egyptian to stay on the island. „It's obvious that Liverpool have to accept Salah's demands. If I were Salah, I would stay at Liverpool, he can earn more money, he is the best player at the club together with Mané and together with him they will win many trophies.“ It remains to be seen whether an agreement will soon be reached between Salah and Liverpool FC.
